This is our sweet Aunt Jan with my little Tink. Jan has been battling the effects of breast cancer for the past few years.
My sister asked me to ride in the Little Red Riding Hood battle against breast cancer bike-a-thon with her this year, so I did. It was a ton of fun, but it was inspirational, and just a teeny bit hard. We did the 46 miles.
I arrived in Smithfield Friday night, and Shirt and I went out to dinner, we have never gone out to dinner, so I decided I needed to get a cool drink to mark the occasion, I got a Pink Zebra! When do I go to dinner and get a pink zebra? NEVER. Here's Shirt with my drink, cute huh?
She decided she needed a fun drink too, she got a pina colada with an extra shot of rum...I think her drink was a little funner than mine, but mine was definitely cuter-I mean, look at that!
Look how cute Shirt is too. Don't you love her hair?
We at the yummiest food ever and laughed until our ribs hurt.
The day of the ride.
We look totally tough don't you think? Nobody messes with chicks in pink bandanas-nobody who knows what's good for 'em!

Here's Shirt at the first stop of the ride, isn't that jersey so cute? Her and B are like super cyclists, they're good.

My ribs were still hurting by the way.

Here's the 2 of us in Mendon, it was the first stop. I wanted to play on the playground, but noooooo Shirt was all business, so we got back on our bikes and rode and rode and rode.

Look how far we've come! We stopped up this little hill to take pictures.
Here's the nice lady who took a picture of us. Look how cute she is with her little flower in her helmet.
Here's the picture she took of us. Good job huh.

Good job for me I guess.

Here we are with about 20 miles to go, I was getting so super tired so I had an energizing peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Look at Shirt, just smiling away, don't you want to just smack her?

FAKER!!!!
Here is Shirt's $5,000 bike. It deserves it's own picture, isn't that nice? I thought so too.
And Shirt....why aren't you more tired than this?!?!
Here we go again, look how beautiful the scenery was. It was like this for the whole ride, just beautiful.

This was the last picture I took of our excursion, we are nearing the end of the 46 miles, I think we had like 8 to go-I was dying. I'm not even joking when I say that, you'll have to see the video Shirt took on her blog it's hilarious. Even the 100 mile ladies were passing me at that point (they were amazing!)
During those last couple miles my legs were killing me and my wrists were ready to break-I have a whole new respect for cyclists. It was then I thought of Jan and all she has had to deal with and all she has been through, and I found the energy to just finish that sucker.
I'm not gonna lie, I cried when I crossed the finish line, it was a great big red banner that said "VICTORY OVER CANCER"
There's a phrase, "When the body suffers the spirit strengthens" I'm completely positive I made it through the last 4 miles on the strength of my spirit. I think most people who have had to deal with cancer go through the same thing, you depend on your spirit to shove your body through certain trials.
After the "thon" B and Shirt took me to lunch, it was so yummy!
Here is B eating the perfect chip, he saved it til the end it was so perfect.

Shirt with her lei. They gave us leis at the end of the race, yep, all that and we get a fake flower lei. Just kidding, I thought they were so cute, and I love how Shirt is wearing hers, it makes a statement.

Later that night when we weren't stinky and sweaty and gross. Look at me, still tired and Shirt, she just keeps going and going and going...

This is how she looks when she wants to make out with you. "Ew, no way!" is what I had to say!
I got to see Steve and Jen and their babies that night too! It was so fun to see them all. What a great day. It was exhausting and silly, I laughed and cried and stunk.

Shirt! I had the best weekend, we have to do more together, I miss you. You're such a good friend, thank you for getting me out there to do this with you this year. Next year, watch out, we're gonna try 60!!!

I am so proud of you. I could never ride 46 miles. I did 8 miles 3 times a week in Billings when I was 37, does that count? Let's see-- that means it took me 2 weeks to do what you guys did in just one day. Hmmm , , , , I think that you both are terrific!
I am so proud of you! That is an incredible feat! My cousin who is also battling breast cancer did the Little Red Riding Hood too, she went 103 miles.
I would have cried too. In fact I cried the whole time at water aerobics tonight!
You are special for trying and completing.
I am getting the Breast Cancer Awareness plate and I am going to put on it, SQZEM

Good job! I totally agree with the pain quote; it's how I feel about childbirth.

First, what's a pink zebra?! I'm dying to know. And, great job--no GREAT JOB-- on the 46 miles!! How long did it take ya? A friend of mine did the 100 miles. (She planned on the 46 miles and felt so good that she took the 100 mile turn. She didn't feel that good the whole ride though.)
p.s. Happy birthday too! Sorry I missed calling you on Sunday. I haven't been feeling the greatest. :)
Good Job!! That is so awesome that you got to go that with your sis. You look as beautiful as ever!! You are amazing!!
