Just a quick little story to tug at the heart strings. Tonight, I was putting the kids to bed, and I've been letting them choose Christmas stories before we go to bed, they usually pick 2 out of our pile of Christmas books. Well, tonight, Ethan chose Grandpa's book. He opened it up and saw the things he'd written to us (he gave us a super duper signed copy with a sweet little message) and he started to cry. I can't say I blame him, he really misses Grandpa, so do I. I don't know what's harder, missing him, or watching my child grieve.
I got him to calm down, and we looked through the book together, and admired all the artwork-E made several comments on what a great artist Grandpa was, and asked how long it took him to become such a good artist. I told him that Grandpa started working on his art when he was E's age. A little later, I went in to check on him and here's what I found...
Keep on keepin' on little man!

Sweet little guy, his eyes look a little teary...we miss the ones we love but we must remember what they taught us.
This is so sweet. And so sad too. Thank goodness you know where your dad is and that the separation is only temporary but it hurts, doesn't it. I'm so sorry for your loss and for my sweet Tricia's loss. One thing is for certain, you all have his sense of humor and for that the world will be a better place.
Thanks for sharing the sweet story. However, I got teary too when I read it.
Here's another story: My cousin Cherilee also has a blog--Hunsaker Happenings is the name of the link.
Anyway, a few weeks ago Cherilee and her sister Liz were talking about Randy and how happy he had made me, and then one of them said,"It's too bad that Randy died and they couldn't have been together longer. When Cherilee's son, Jensen, who is about 10, heard that, he burst into tears and said incredulously, "He's dead? That man who wrote that wonderful book?"
Randy certainly made a big imprint on everyone's hearts!
P.S. I love the snowflake wallpaper on your blog. . . and you only have 55 days to go. Then you can see your new little girl!
that got me a little choked up! Gosh and the holidays sure don't make it easy either.Love you guys
HOpe our little baby on the way is being patient again!
Tell Ethan I love him and I would love to have him send me a picture.
That is a really sweet story. It made me miss your dad too! We love you guys - haven't seen enough of you lately!
I miss him too--and what a sweet little story.
That is sooo cool! We read his book last night to the girls. It was awesome. We really enjoyed all of the fine details...we find something new each time! Steve especially likes the cub hat on a dino at the end. Karli is such a good little artist...we are really trying to encourage her. It is such an amazing thing to someone who struggles with stick figures.
Luva you,
Jen
these are the days every parent lives for, the days when you we are witness to the Lord's tender mercies. I'm sorry for your sadness... I agree, it is so hard to go through hard things when your kid's have grief too.
